Describe the communication process, and explain the role of perception
in communication.
COMMUNICATION PROCESS
§ Define communication.
§ Discuss its relation to the quality of
products and services, responsiveness and satisfaction, and product and service
innovation.
§ Define the variables involved in the
communication process (sender, message, encoding, noise, receiver, medium,
& decoding).
§ Be able to differentiate the difference
between verbal communication (the encoding of messages into words, either written or
spoken) and nonverbal (the
encoding of messages by means of facial expressions, body language, and styles
of dress).
§ Be able to narrate the historical development
of the corporate communication strategy framework.
§ Be able to explain the interrelated flow of
the variables; transmission phase, and feedback phase.
PERCEPTION
§ Define perception.
§ Be able to explain the role of perception as in
Shannon-Weaver’s model (1948).
§ To understand the influence of biases (systematic
tendencies to use information about others in ways that can result in
inaccurate perceptions)
and stereotypes (simplified and often inaccurate beliefs about the
characteristics of particular groups of people which can interfere with the
encoding and decoding of messages)
§ Support your explanation using relevant
issues/examples.

Describe important communication skills that managers need as senders
and receivers of messages and why it is important to understand differences in
linguistic styles.
COMMUNICTION SKILLS
§ Explain & define communication process
(sender, message, encoding, noise, receiver, medium, & decoding).
§ Be able to explain organizational
communication and corporate communication.
§ Be able ALSO to explain senders and receivers
in the context of corporation.
LINGUISTIC STYLE
§ Define linguistic style (i.e.tone of voice,
speed, etc.)
§ Be able to elaborate the influence of the
linguistic styles in organizational communication and corporate communication.

Explain why effective communication helps an organization gain a
competitive advantage.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
· It is useful to explain the communication

· Be able to explain effectiveness in terms of

able to explain barriers to effective communication.

· Define competitive advantage. Relate to
communication strategy that may give a differential advantage.

communication in terms of information richness and the right medium (i.e.
face-to-face, electronic communication, personal letters or email, and blogs)

counted as references, but worth to be used in explaining the idea/terms.
