Part I: The Questions & Outlines
GUIDELINES ONLY
1.    Describe the communication process, and explain the role of perception in communication.
COMMUNICATION PROCESS
§  Define communication.
§  Discuss its relation to the quality of products and services, responsiveness and satisfaction, and product and service innovation.
§  Define the variables involved in the communication process (sender, message, encoding, noise, receiver, medium, & decoding).
§  Be able to differentiate the difference between verbal communication (the encoding of messages into words, either written or spoken) and nonverbal (the encoding of messages by means of facial expressions, body language, and styles of dress).
§  Be able to narrate the historical development of the corporate communication strategy framework.
§  Be able to explain the interrelated flow of the variables; transmission phase, and feedback phase.
PERCEPTION
§  Define perception.
§  Be able to explain the role of perception as in Shannon-Weaver’s model (1948).
§  To understand the influence of biases (systematic tendencies to use information about others in ways that can result in inaccurate perceptions) and stereotypes (simplified and often inaccurate beliefs about the characteristics of particular groups of people which can interfere with the encoding and decoding of messages)
§  Support your explanation using relevant issues/examples.

2.    Describe important communication skills that managers need as senders and receivers of messages and why it is important to understand differences in linguistic styles.
COMMUNICTION SKILLS
§  Explain & define communication process (sender, message, encoding, noise, receiver, medium, & decoding).
§  Be able to explain organizational communication and corporate communication.
§  Be able ALSO to explain senders and receivers in the context of corporation.
LINGUISTIC STYLE
§  Define linguistic style (i.e.tone of voice, speed, etc.)
§  Be able to elaborate the influence of the linguistic styles in organizational communication and corporate communication.

3.    Explain why effective communication helps an organization gain a competitive advantage.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
·      It is useful to explain the communication process (sender, message, encoding, noise, receiver, medium, & decoding).
·      Be able to explain effectiveness in terms of organizational communication and corporate communication
·      Be able to explain barriers to effective communication.
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
·      Define competitive advantage. Relate to communication strategy that may give a differential advantage.
·      Be also able to explain effective communication in terms of information richness and the right medium (i.e. face-to-face, electronic communication, personal letters or email, and blogs)

SUGGESTED HEADINGS
The assignment should consider using suggested headings (basic) below;
  1. Introduction about the topic/related issues.
  2. Literature about the topic/related issues.
  3. Discussion (using examples/issues occurred)
  4. Conclusion
  5. References

Part II: The Format
-          Not more than 10 pages, Tahoma 11, & double space.
-          APA (AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION MANUAL ) writing style.
-          Explain specific terms using examples.
Part III: Good Paper
-          Using appropriate cases in literature review would be helpful as well as the real issues i.e Cadburry, MAS etc.
-          References should be 8 or more from articles or books. You are advised to google published journal, i.e. type “pdf effective communication
-          Newspaper and blog are not counted as references, but worth to be used in explaining the idea/terms.
-          Properly binded using UMS Dissertation/Thesis style.
Part IV: Poor Paper
-          Copy and paste
-          Too long sentences.
-          Jargons and flower.
WE EXPECT:
1. FACT is creatively written/supported. (always cite the references using APA and explain fact in your own language)

2. ORIGINALITY of idea (Try not to look at/compare your friends’ report and yours)
