My Words: Lifelong Learning - Is it an assurance for career development?

Nowadays, many working adults are going back to school. The reason underpinning this decision is mainly to enable them to be promoted to the higher ladder in their current job. In other words, this will be a tool for a promotion. However, in line with the fast pace of today's employment activities and the tendency of the long tenure of the senior executives and managers, that expectation might not turn up as expected. Thus, there is a risk for the working adults spending considerable amount of time either as part time or full time students, while their colleagues are building and strengthening their seniority at workplace.

  1. In the United States, especially in my field, marketing, this is not the case. In the US, the average tenure of a CMO [Chief Marketing Officer] is 14 months. Most CMO's have a MBA degree; some do it online. With this rapid turnover, at least in the U.S., it opens up opportunities for people.

  2. teemoney... thank you for your comment. Looking forward to hear more from you...if you don't mind. It is very interesting subject since it involves culture...working culture of yours (Americans) and us. By the way I was a graduate from Texas.
